An Exploration of the Psycho-Social Factors that Impact the Mental Wellbeing of Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children in UK: A Narrative ReviewAbstract
Unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC) are amongst the most vulnerable populations worldwide, facing significant psycho-social and mental health challenges influenced by pre-migration, migration, and post-migration experiences. This narrative review examines the structural, legal, and practical factors affecting UASC, focusing on their lived experiences within the UK’s asylum system. Key areas explored include trauma caused by forced migration (pre-, during and post-migration), ethical dilemmas surrounding ag [...] 494 4026 |
Effect of EVA on the Unnotched Impact Toughness of PP/HDPE/EVA Blendsby
Abstract
Beverage bottle caps are usually made from two primary materials: PP and HDPE. In this study, the evaluation criteria were the unnotched impact toughness and the microstructure of PP/HDPE/EVA samples produced by injection molding. The samples were tested according to ASTM D256. PP/HDPE/EVA blends were prepared with various ratios: 47.5/47.5/5, 45/45/10, 42.5/42.5/15, 40/40/20, and 37.5/37.5/25. The results showed that adding EVA to the PP/HDPE blend significantly increased the unnotched impact toughness: from 84.03 [...] 824 4021 |

DNA-Based Variability of Length Polymorphism of Plant Allergens Coding Genes Homologs in Selected Lamiaceae Herbsby
Abstract
Medicinal plants have been a part of human life from a very early age. In the field of plant genetics, they are still widely investigated for their genomic variability. This study used two DNA marker techniques to obtain polymorphic profiles in selected species from Lamiaceae. Both are based on the variability of plant genes that code for allergens - BBAP (Bet v 1-Based Amplicon Polymorphism) and PBAP (Profilin-Based Amplicon Polymorphism). Variability of Bet v 1 homologues within individual genomes showed similari [...] 603 4014 |
Papillon-Lefèvre Syndrome and Vitamin D Deficiency: An Intriguing Clinical ObservationAbstract
We report the case of a 3-year-old girl from a consanguineous marriage, initially diagnosed with vitamin D deficiency–associated periodontitis following early tooth mobility. Despite supplementation, her condition worsened with the onset of palmoplantar hyperkeratosis. Further investigations revealed the diagnosis of Papillon-Lefèvre Syndrome (PLS), a rare genetic disorder causing severe periodontitis and palmoplantar keratosis. The patient was managed with vitamin D supplementation, dental extractions, and a remov [...] 603 4002 |
Modern UNOS Data Reveals Septuagenarians Have Inferior Heart Transplant Survivalby
Abstract
While heart transplantation is increasingly performed in the United States for elderly patients, survival outcomes have primarily been analyzed in single-center studies. The few existing long-term studies have indicated no difference in HTx outcomes between patients ≥70 years and 60-69 years age, but these studies only assessed to 5-years post-transplant and included data from the 1980-90s, introducing significant variance due to poorer outcomes in that era. We analyzed the UNOS database from 1987-2020, stratified [...] 753 3966 |
Keeping Your Head: Remembering to Think in Mindfulness Practiceby
Abstract
It is an axiomatic in secular mindfulness that to become present is to direct attention away from thinking to physical sensation. While this can be a useful strategy to manage depressive rumination, as an automatic default position, it risks demonising our fundamental human capacity to purposefully think about the causes of suffering and how to reduce it. Many approaches within Mahayana Buddhism in particular explicitly use reflection on key ideas as necessary pre-requisites to meditation, and in these traditions, [...] 1069 3930 |
Gut Microbial Similarity Analysis in Mono and Dizygotic Twins Discordant for Down Syndromeby
Abstract
To investigate the potential impact of the additional chromosome 21 on the gut microbiome in patients with Down syndrome (DS), two monozygotic (MZ) and two dizygotic (DZ) twin pairs discordant for DS were studied. Whole-genome shotgun sequencing was conducted to analyze the taxonomic and functional profiles of the gut microbial community in the twins and assess whether the gut microbiome composition influences the development of psychological pathologies. Sequencing generated a total of 2,338,132 reads, combined ac [...] 646 3918 |
Design and Simulation of Computational Models of Hybrid Scaffolds Representative of Subchondral Bone and Hyaline CartilageAbstract
Tissue engineering offers alternatives when it comes to health problems such as trauma or pathologies. One of them is the scaffolds, which provide a favorable architecture, mechanics, and biocompatibility for the fixation of cells. Therefore, the following research aims to design and simulate scaffolds with mixed geometric structures to create a hybrid architecture for osseointegration while maintaining structural properties similar to subchondral bone and hyaline cartilage. Three scaffolds were designed for this p [...] 634 3908 |
A Phase I/II Randomized Trial of Higher Dose mRNA-1273 Boosters in Lung Transplant Recipientsby
Abstract
Higher-dose mRNA booster vaccines have not been well studied for transplant recipients. This study evaluated the safety, reactogenicity and immunogenicity of higher dose mRNA-1273 booster vaccines among lung transplant recipients (LTRs). This phase 1/2 open-label randomized clinical trial of higher-dose mRNA-1273 booster vaccination enrolled nineteen adult LTRs into the 50 µg (n = 8) vs. 100 µg (n = 11) groups before enrollment was terminated due to the availability of the bivalent mRNA-1273.222 vaccine [...] 774 3883 |
