Lanthanum Uptake and Distribution in Agricultural and Wild Plants: Insights from Greenhouse and Field Studies in Uncontaminated Soils

Received: 24 March 2025;  Published: 08 July 2025;  doi: 10.21926/rpse.2503012

Abstract

Lanthanum (La) is widely used in various fields. As a consequence, it can accumulate in soil and thus pose a potential hazard to the environment, including a decrease of plant biomass and chlorophyll content. To date, most experimental studies on the biogeochemistry of La have focused on toxic effects resulting from its accumulation in plants growing in La-contaminated areas, while the behavior of La in plants growing in uncontaminated soils has been the subject of much less research. The primary objectives of this [...]

A New Database on Constitutional Human Ring Chromosomes

Received: 20 April 2025;  Published: 26 June 2025;  doi: 10.21926/obm.genet.2502298

Abstract

Human ring chromosomes (RCs) constitute one of the rarest described inborn chromosomal rearrangements. At first, they seem to be just another subgroup of structural chromosomal aberrations like translocations, inversions, or insertions. However, RCs are more complex, as they almost always occur in conjunction with a mosaic karyotype constitution, resulting in mosaic monosomy of the affected chromosome. Most likely due to the latter effect, a genotype-phenotype correlation is still not available. To proceed with sol [...]

Parenting Behavior and Early Childhood Mental Health: Cortisol Awakening Response as a Moderator of Child Internalizing and Externalizing

Received: 02 September 2024;  Published: 04 March 2025;  doi: 10.21926/obm.icm.2501011

Abstract

Certain observable parenting behaviors contribute to the risk of children developing internalizing and externalizing problems. Yet parenting behaviors do not affect all children uniformly and effects may depend on identifiable child characteristics. One factor is a child’s biological sensitivity to the caregiving environment, an indicator of which is a stress hormone, cortisol. This longitudinal study examines two dimensions of observable parenting behaviors, responsive and rejecting/harsh. These parenting behavior [...]

The Screening Strategies Used to Establish Egyptian Women Entrepreneurs’ Attitudes towards Genetic Technology

Received: 12 March 2024;  Published: 12 June 2024;  doi: 10.21926/obm.genet.2402241

Abstract

In this quantitative study, the researcher examined the screening strategies used to establish Egyptian women entrepreneurs' attitudes toward genetic technology. Using a questionnaire, the researcher collected data from 318 Egyptian women entrepreneurs. From applying the path analysis through Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS) version 26.0, this study’s findings demonstrate genomic knowledge’s positive effect on attitudes towards genetic technology (β = 0.176; p = 0.003). The path analysis shows that, on the one [...]

Management of Atrial Fibrillation after Kidney Transplant: Do We Need a New Metric?

Received: 06 December 2024;  Published: 27 February 2025;  doi: 10.21926/obm.transplant.2501238

Abstract

To evaluate the bleeding risk associated with anticoagulation (AC) in kidney transplant patients with post-operative atrial fibrillation (AF). We conducted a retrospective analysis of all adult kidney transplant recipients performed from October 2012 to February 2019 at our institution, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which accounted for 428 transplants. Variables assessed included AF occurrence, AC use, bleeding complications, stroke and bleeding risk stratification in AF (determined using CHA2DS2 [...]

Health Outcomes Associated with Community Senior Center Fitness Classes: Influence of Activity Type and Baseline Physical Activity Level

Received: 09 June 2025;  Published: 12 September 2025;  doi: 10.21926/obm.geriatr.2503326

Abstract

Senior centers serve as community anchors for the approximately 57.8 million older adults in the U.S., offering a range of health promotion programs, including exercise classes. This study examined how the type of exercise programs at senior centers influences older adults’ health (mental, physical, and quality of life) and how baseline physical activity levels may influence these changes as part of a statewide health promotion program evaluation in senior centers in Delaware. The exercise programs offered were bas [...]
