Erectile Function in Men during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Received: 25 August 2023;  Published: 18 February 2024;  doi: 10.21926/obm.icm.2401014

Abstract

This research focused on two age groups of men (under 40 and over 40 years) and their sexual function during the COVID-19 pandemic. Somatic examinations, including the measurement of hormone levels, were conducted on all patients. The subjects also completed two questionnaires and provided personal history data. The first questionnaire covered the evaluation of erectile function, while the second assessed psychosocial trauma and stress. The results in the first group (men under 40 years of age) showed a correlation [...]

Capillary Suction Properties of Mortar Made with Recycled Plastic Aggregates Elaborated from Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment

Received: 18 October 2023;  Published: 15 March 2024;  doi: 10.21926/rpm.2401007

Abstract

It is possible to revalue the plastic fraction from WEEE using it as a recycled aggregate (RA) in cement mortars. However, this feasibility depends on elaborating a granular material via a core-shell strategy to stabilize the potential contaminants. The core is a plastic particle, and the shell is a cement, fillers, and activated carbon mixture. Due to the hydrophilic characteristics of the shell and the presence of interstitial sites generated by the use of the RA, it is necessary to study the wetting properties o [...]

The Origin of Social Skills: Manipulating Shared Intentionality in Bioengineering Systems for Empathy Training

Received: 12 March 2024;  Published: 28 August 2024;  doi: 10.21926/obm.neurobiol.2403243

Abstract

This pilot study (N = 28) aims to develop universal computer-aided empathy training. The experiment tests a research design of manipulating behavior in subjects toward non-affective cues in a bioengineering system. The study implements the Mother-Fetus Neurocognitive Model to involve subjects in subliminal cognitive collaboration with confederates, which enables subjects to associate the meaning of empathy with the picture only seen by confederates. The outcome shows the feasibility of the chosen research design wi [...]

Review of Heterotopic Heart Transplantation Models in Rats

Received: 21 October 2024;  Published: 14 March 2025;  doi: 10.21926/obm.transplant.2501242

Abstract

Heterotopic heart transplantation (HHT) in rats is a valuable tool for cardiac transplantation research. While abdominal HHT has been established in rats for nearly 90 years, novel approaches involving cervical and femoral techniques have also been explored. The abdominal HHT model, despite its long history, is technically demanding and has a steep learning curve. In contrast, the cervical HHT model enables surgeons with more basic microsurgical skills to achieve competency more quickly while producing comparable o [...]

Covid 19’s Social Quarantine-Moderated Self-Reported Mental Health and Substance Use Among US Adults

Received: 03 December 2023;  Published: 29 February 2024;  doi: 10.21926/obm.icm.2401017

Abstract

In 2019 the novel coronavirus spread quickly throughout the world. It was easily transmitted, resulting in a sudden increase in infection and death rates that overwhelmed hospitals. This sudden pandemic resulted in government and health officials mandating physical and social quarantines to decrease the spread of COVID-19. All these unexpected factors induced traumatic stress across the world. The impact of this trauma is seen to date, as many studies reported adverse mental health effects in an array of population [...]

Spirituality in the Therapy Room

Received: 22 May 2024;  Published: 28 October 2024;  doi: 10.21926/obm.icm.2404063

Abstract

Therapeutic presence brings one’s whole self into the encounter with another in the therapy room. It is a fundamental aspect of the relationship between therapist and client, the cornerstone of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy. Therapeutic presence can be strengthened through spirituality, meditation, mindfulness, or other practices such as the intention to enhance the therapeutic encounter for both client and therapist. Despite its importance, standard experimental techniques cannot readily measure and invest [...]

Feasibility and Acceptability of a Peer Training Program to Deliver a Theory-Based Physical Activity Behavior Change Intervention to Inactive People Living With and Beyond Cancer: A Mixed Methods Study

Received: 16 July 2024;  Published: 08 November 2024;  doi: 10.21926/obm.icm.2404067

Abstract

Theory-based physical activity (PA) interventions include PA promotion strategies that can be delivered by exercise professionals, friends, family and peers. Peer-delivery presents a valuable opportunity for community implementation. Few peer-led PA interventions for people living with and beyond cancer (LWBC) report the feasibility of their peer mentor training methods. The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility and acceptability of a peer mentor training program to deliver a behavioural PA interventi [...]

Investigating the Relationship between Lipid Profiles of Stroke Patients at the Time of Admission and Their Outcome

Received: 07 March 2024;  Published: 19 July 2024;  doi: 10.21926/obm.neurobiol.2403233

Abstract

Hyperlipidemia is one of the critical risk factors for cerebrovascular disease. Many studies have emphasized that controlling the lipid level can decrease the risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events. In this article, we studied all types of lipids in stroke patients and wanted to consider any relation between lipid level in admission and outcome. This retrospective, cross-sectional study was conducted at Imam Reza Research and Training Hospital. It was performed on a sample of 2165 patients who visited th [...]
