The Identification 5S nrDNA Unit Classes in Genera of Plants and Selected Non-Vertebrate Animals and Their Potential for the Study of Species Relationships

Received: 07 January 2022;  Published: 24 April 2022;  doi: 10.21926/obm.genet.2202152

Abstract

We have investigated the utility of the 5S nrDNA, a conserved, multicopy gene family organized into tandem repeats as a tool for genetic analyses in a wide variety of genera. Previous work in the Triticeae (Poaceae) demonstrated that the prior identification of unit classes based upon the 5S nrDNA NTS, greatly facilitates analysis. We investigated the potential of defining unit classes in other plant genera and several animal genera as a step towards future phylogenetic analyses. Our results demonstrate that in in [...]

Melatonin As a Protective Agent Against Environmental Stresses: A Review into Its Molecular Regulation in Plants

Received: 05 February 2024;  Published: 12 June 2024;  doi: 10.21926/obm.genet.2402242

Abstract

Understanding the impact of melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine) on plant gene expression is crucial for unlocking its full potential as a tool for crop improvement and stress tolerance. Melatonin has emerged to have several influences on the transcriptional activity of numerous genes, helping to orchestrate plant responses to environmental cues. Furthermore, it has been shown that melatonin signaling pathways control downstream gene expression to ensure proper plant growth and development. Therefore, clearing [...]

Geochemical Assessment of the Modern Sediments of a Lake in the North of Russia

Received: 09 March 2023;  Published: 05 July 2023;  doi: 10.21926/aeer.2303038

Abstract

Core sediment (sapropel) samples were collected from Lake Okunozero, the Republic of Karelia, Russia, to assess the distribution of heavy metals and their main fractions, probable sources of pollution, and potential ecological and toxicological risks for the water body. Heavy metal concentrations were measured by the mass spectrometry method using an XSeries-2 ICP-MS. The sequential extraction of heavy metals from sapropel samples was performed using the scheme of Tessier. According to the Russian Interstate Standa [...]

Finding Positives Amidst the Negatives: A Thematic Analysis of the Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Canadians 55+

Received: 31 July 2022;  Published: 17 November 2022;  doi: 10.21926/obm.geriatr.2204213

Abstract

Disasters such as the COVID-19 pandemic exact a toll on vulnerable populations in terms of morbidity and mortality, but they also provide opportunities for personal growth and development and demonstration of personal and collective resiliency. This inductive thematic analysis explores self-perceived negative and positive impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on 2994 Canadians aged 55+. Data derive from response to two open-ended questions included in a national online survey (View Survey (sfu.ca)) conducted between Aug [...]

The Relationship between Anger, Stress, Psychological Distress and Mood Disorders among Entrepreneurs

Received: 18 December 2024;  Published: 26 May 2025;  doi: 10.21926/obm.neurobiol.2502288

Abstract

The present study investigates the association between anger, stress, psychological distress and mood disorders among Egyptian entrepreneurs. Approach-wise, the study is quantitative, and its cross-sectional data were collected using a questionnaire. The study’s respondents are Egyptian entrepreneurs involved in several business activities. Hence, the study concluded based on 286 valid responses. We used analysis of moment structures (AMOS) software, where we conducted path analysis to conclude the results. C [...]

Quantum Semiconductors Based on Carbon Materials for Nanophotonics and Photonics Applications by Electron Shuttle and Near Field Phenomena

Received: 16 September 2023;  Published: 26 December 2023;  doi: 10.21926/rpm.2304037

Abstract

This review intended to resume key Research reports and publications that open many themes and topics related to Carbon-based semiconductors and Quantum emitters. The Design and synthesis of highly pure materials such as Graphene, Carbon Nanotubes, fullerenes, and other Carbon-based allotropes were shown. They presented their most important and promising properties concerning new studies and developments in photonics. Carbon-based Quantum dots, semiconductors, and higher sized Nanoplatforms allowed us to discuss fu [...]

Mesoscale Modeling of Extrusion and Solidification During Material Extrusion Additive Manufacturing

Received: 22 August 2023;  Published: 25 October 2023;  doi: 10.21926/rpm.2304033

Abstract

In this work, we apply a multiphysics approach to fused deposition modeling to simulate extrusion and solidification. Restricting the work to a single line scan, we focus on the application of polylactic acid. In addition to heat, momentum and mass transfer, the solid/liquid/vapor interface is simulated using a front-tracking, level-set method. The results focus on the evolving temperature, viscosity, and volume fraction and are cast within a set of parametric studies, to include the printing and extrusion speed, a [...]

The Daclatasvir/Asunaprevir/Beclabuvir Combination Therapy for Chronic Hepatitis C Patients Experiencing Failure of IFN-Free DAA-Based Therapies

Received: 29 September 2019;  Published: 17 December 2019;  doi: 10.21926/obm.hg.1904041

Abstract

Background: Daclatasvir/asunaprevir/beclabuvir (DCV/ASV/BCV) combination therapy had been available for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C patients with genotype 1 (CHG1) in Japan. Our aim was to report the efficacy and safety of DCV/ASV/BCV in patients experiencing treatment failure with interferon (IFN)-free direct-acting antiviral agent (DAA)-based therapies, which have not been fully evaluated. Methods: We evaluated the efficacy and safety of 12-week DCV/ASV/BCV combination therapy for CHG1 patients experien [...]

Thermodynamic and Structural Optimization of Organic Rankine Cycle Plant for Clean Energy Access Using Artificial Bee Colony and Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Algorithms

Received: 29 December 2022;  Published: 13 April 2023;  doi: 10.21926/jept.2302015

Abstract

The quest to decarbonize the energy space to avert the negative climate change consequences calls for using low/zero-carbon energy conversion technologies in the energy generation space. The Organic Rankine Cycle is a low/zero-carbon energy conversion technology for recovering waste heat from low to medium-temperature heat sources and for biomass conversion. Therefore, this paper presents the thermodynamic optimization, with an artificial bee colony algorithm, of different ORC configurations, including simple organ [...]
