Leaf Mediated Curcuma sp. Silver Nanoparticles as Catalyst - Evaluating Their Antioxidant, Cytotoxicity, Para-Nitrophenol Catalytic and Photocatalytic Activity

Received: 29 April 2024;  Published: 22 July 2024;  doi: 10.21926/cr.2403010

Abstract

Nanotechnology is a fast-rising market in catalytic research; however, the production of eco-friendly nanoparticles remains a significant challenge. In this study, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized from the agro-industrial waste of leaves of C. longa, C. aromatica, C. caesia, C. zedoaria, and C. amada at RT after 24 h, which was confirmed with UV-spectrophotometric evaluation between 320-520 nm. SEM revealed cubic and 30-50 nm AgNPs, while band-gap energy was presented as semi-conductors. Synthesized Ag [...]

Effects of a One-Week Intensive Wellness Camp on Dietary Behaviors among Southwest American Indian Youth

Received: 27 September 2022;  Published: 12 January 2023;  doi: 10.21926/rpn.2301002

Abstract

American Indians (AI) suffer the highest rates of diabetes in the United States (US); a chronic disease that is increasingly prevalent among AI children and is associated with increased risk of cancer. A summer camp was developed to improve disease risk-reducing behaviors, including diet, among AI youth in Arizona. The aim of this study was to examine the efficacy of a one-week intensive summer health camp conducted from 2016 to 2019 on change in dietary behaviors and compliance for Dietary Guidelines for Americans [...]

Sleep Quality, Sleep Efficiency, and Perceived Stress after Synchronous Virtual Mindfulness Meditation Sessions for Higher Education Students

Received: 09 August 2023;  Published: 30 October 2023;  doi: 10.21926/obm.icm.2304048

Abstract

This study examined the effects of virtual mindfulness meditation programming on sleep efficiency using wearable tracking devices, as well as effects on sleep quality and perceived stress in higher education students. A one-group, pretest-posttest design with convenience sampling and rolling recruitment over a six-month period resulted in twenty-five participants who completed the study and were included in data analysis. Paired t-tests were used to determine statistical significance for sleep efficiency measured u [...]

Degradation of Amido Black Dye Using Ultra-Violet Light Catalyzed by Iron Oxide Nanoparticles: Kinetics and Mechanism of Degradation

Received: 26 June 2022;  Published: 25 July 2022;  doi: 10.21926/cr.2203022

Abstract

In this study, we investigated the degradation of amido black dye in an aqueous solution using ultra-violet (UV) light catalyzed by iron oxide nanoparticles (nano-Fe). The nano-Fe was synthesized by sodium borohydride reduction of ferric chloride solution and was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray fluorescence spectrophotometry (XRF). The SEM of the nano-Fe showed regular spherical particles, the XRD examination showed a weak and broad peak at Fe (1 1 0), and the [...]

A New Progress in Random Hydrodynamic Lubrication for Movable Non-Rotational Curvilinear Biosurfaces with Phospholipid Bilayers

Received: 08 October 2020;  Published: 02 June 2021;  doi: 10.21926/rpm.2102023

Abstract

This paper aims to highlight the result of a new progression of mathematical estimation methods of stochastic bio-hydrodynamic lubrication parameters for arbitrary, curvilinear, non-rotational, co-operating, living biological surfaces coated with phospholipid bi-layers. Movable, non-rotational, co-operating surfaces occur in various biological friction nods like the collar bone, the blade bone, the jump joint, and the wrist joint. Specifically, the author presents a synthetic and comprehensive estimation of stochas [...]

Spontaneous Magnetization in the Finite-Size Two-Leg Ising Ladder in the External Magnetic Field

Received: 30 March 2023;  Published: 24 June 2023;  doi: 10.21926/rpm.2302026

Abstract

This paper considers a finite-sized two-leg ladder of spin-1/2 particles with local inter-chain Ising interaction. We include the effects of an external magnetic field by incorporating a Zeeman-type coupling between the magnetic field and the spins localized on the lattice sites. To analyze the system, we utilize the transfer-matrix formalism to calculate the partition function. We compute the magnetization for different configurations by varying the system's parameters. We observe the presence 3of spontaneous magn [...]

Understanding the Regulation of Transcription in Mental Illness

Received: 17 June 2021;  Published: 17 November 2021;  doi: 10.21926/obm.genet.2104143

Abstract

Advances in clinical psychiatry have been less than hoped for relative to the achievements in neuroscience. However, developments in neuromodulation and psychedelic therapy are promising. The efficacy of such treatments and canonical pharmacotherapies benefit from genetics and personalized medicine. Moreover, recent studies on the perturbation of transcription, including chromatin remodeling, in mental illness emphasized the importance of single-cell qPCR as an investigatory method that bolstered psychiatry. This t [...]

Patient’s Acting on their Own Care: Medical Hypnosis for Perioperative Management in The Awake Craniotomy. Technical Report and Clinical Cases.

Received: 09 May 2022;  Published: 28 July 2022;  doi: 10.21926/obm.icm.2203030

Abstract

The patient as the custodian of their own care is a concept that has been evolving for several years and can help the patient to a better and quicker recovery. Medical Hypnosis (MH) assist the practitioner to reduce the patient’s pain and disorders and help the patient to understand, accept, and manage their situation. Recently, this technique has been increasingly used in awake surgery protocols. This paper describes three examples of the successful perioperative management of patients who benefited from an awake [...]

Operation of AC Microgrids with PV Panels’ Output Power Curtailment for Minimizing the Use of Energy Storage

Received: 21 January 2022;  Published: 07 March 2022;  doi: 10.21926/jept.2201008

Abstract

In this paper, a method for operating AC microgrids in both off-grid or standalone and grid-connected modes is proposed to minimize the use of energy storage by increasing the number of PV panels and curtailing their output power. When the intensity of daylight decreases, power is imported from the main grid through an AC/DC/AC converter or solid-state transformers in parallel to compensate for the shortage. By using a three-phase transformer in Δ-Y connection with Y’s neutral connected to its local grounding syste [...]
