Automated Probabilistic Analysis and Parametric Modelling of the Seasonal-Diurnal Wind Vector

Received: 14 April 2021;  Published: 25 June 2021;  doi: 10.21926/jept.2102027

Abstract

A refined and extended version of the Offset Elliptical Normal mixture model has been developed to parameterise the seasonal diurnal wind vector automatically. Automated using R scripts, the method eliminates any potential risk of confirmation bias posed by the manual supervision in the original method. Refinements to the method include the latest algorithms for clustering of Gaussian mixtures, with Bayesian regularisation to set the number of components and to limit the predisposition to overfit. A new extension u [...]

Comparative Analysis of the Relationship between Renewable Energy Adoption, Fossil Fuel Energy Consumption, and CO2 Emission in the United States and China

Received: 11 March 2024;  Published: 26 September 2024;  doi: 10.21926/aeer.2403018

Abstract

This study addresses the critical issue of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, focusing on understanding the intricate interplay between four major variables Gross Domestic Product per capita (GDPC), Renewal Energy (RE), Fossil Fuel energy consumption (FF), and Patent application (PTS). This research is crucial due to the emerging negative impacts of climate change, which will create a disastrous future for human beings. It focuses on three decades from 1990 to 2020 and compares the results between the United States an [...]

Contactless Detection of Natural Bending Frequencies using Embedded Metallic-Glass Ribbons inside Plastic Beams made of 3-D Printing

Received: 12 December 2020;  Published: 06 April 2021;  doi: 10.21926/rpm.2102010

Abstract

In the current work, to identify the bending mode harmonics, 30 microns thin magnetoelastic ribbons made of metallic glass are embedded inside 6 mm thick PLA plastic cantilever beams made by 3-D printing. This is possible because the ribbons are of magnetoelastic nature and thus change their mechanical state inducing a corresponding change in their magnetic state. The ribbons are placed at four different depths, starting with zero depth at the beam’s external surface all the way inside to the beam’s mid-plane. This [...]

Patient’s Acting on their Own Care: Medical Hypnosis for Perioperative Management in The Awake Craniotomy. Technical Report and Clinical Cases.

Received: 09 May 2022;  Published: 28 July 2022;  doi: 10.21926/obm.icm.2203030

Abstract

The patient as the custodian of their own care is a concept that has been evolving for several years and can help the patient to a better and quicker recovery. Medical Hypnosis (MH) assist the practitioner to reduce the patient’s pain and disorders and help the patient to understand, accept, and manage their situation. Recently, this technique has been increasingly used in awake surgery protocols. This paper describes three examples of the successful perioperative management of patients who benefited from an awake [...]

Effects of a One-Week Intensive Wellness Camp on Dietary Behaviors among Southwest American Indian Youth

Received: 27 September 2022;  Published: 12 January 2023;  doi: 10.21926/rpn.2301002

Abstract

American Indians (AI) suffer the highest rates of diabetes in the United States (US); a chronic disease that is increasingly prevalent among AI children and is associated with increased risk of cancer. A summer camp was developed to improve disease risk-reducing behaviors, including diet, among AI youth in Arizona. The aim of this study was to examine the efficacy of a one-week intensive summer health camp conducted from 2016 to 2019 on change in dietary behaviors and compliance for Dietary Guidelines for Americans [...]

Spontaneous Magnetization in the Finite-Size Two-Leg Ising Ladder in the External Magnetic Field

Received: 30 March 2023;  Published: 24 June 2023;  doi: 10.21926/rpm.2302026

Abstract

This paper considers a finite-sized two-leg ladder of spin-1/2 particles with local inter-chain Ising interaction. We include the effects of an external magnetic field by incorporating a Zeeman-type coupling between the magnetic field and the spins localized on the lattice sites. To analyze the system, we utilize the transfer-matrix formalism to calculate the partition function. We compute the magnetization for different configurations by varying the system's parameters. We observe the presence 3of spontaneous magn [...]

Tacrolimus Therapeutic Response, Pharmacokinetics and Adherence in Liver Transplant Recipients

Received: 20 August 2024;  Published: 13 December 2024;  doi: 10.21926/obm.transplant.2404228

Abstract

A high intra and interindividual pharmacokinetics variability characterize Tacrolimus. Data regarding factors influencing its pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in liver transplantation are limited. This study aimed to assess tacrolimus therapeutic response, pharmacokinetics and adherence in liver transplant recipients. The study was conducted at the Clinical Pharmacology Department for 12 years, from January 2009 to March 2021. We included liver transplant patients treated with tacrolimus referred to our depart [...]

Combination, Sequential Therapies Incorporating Tocilizumab Decrease the Progression of Chronic Lung Allograft Dysfunction (CLAD) after Lung Transplantation: Initial Clinical Experience

Received: 19 September 2019;  Published: 07 November 2019;  doi: 10.21926/obm.transplant.1904090

Abstract

Introduction: TH-17 and IL-6 interactions and detrimental biologic effects have been shown in rodent models of Chronic Lung Allograft Dysfunction (CLAD). Similarly, these pathways have been found to be upregulated in human CLAD. Tocilizumab (TCZ), a humanized monoclonal antibody targets the IL-6 receptor subunit alpha and prevents binding of IL-6. We herein report our preliminary experience with adjunctive TCZ therapy for human CLAD. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed our initial experience with TCZ given after o [...]

Loneliness or Solitude: How Are They Different?

Received: 08 May 2025;  Published: 14 August 2025;  doi: 10.21926/obm.neurobiol.2503297

Abstract

Loneliness, social isolation, aloneness, and solitude may be used interchangeably by some who may miss the difference between them. Loneliness is the experience of being alone, or perceiving that one is alone and unimportant to others. Solitude is being geographically isolated out of one’s choice. Loneliness is not a feeling, but a multidimensional construct which is expressed cognitively, behaviorally and affectively. solitude is also reviewed and a clear distinction between loneliness and solitude is established. An Unusual Case of Recurrent Capillary Leak Syndrome Following Lung Transplantation

Received: 24 April 2020;  Published: 15 June 2020;  doi: 10.21926/obm.transplant.2002113

Abstract

Systemic capillary leak syndrome is a disorder characterized by recurrent, life-threatening episodes of acute capillary hyperpermeability resulting in edema and hypovolemic shock. We report a case of systemic capillary leak syndrome in a lung transplant recipient who developed recurrent episodes of volume overload, respiratory failure, and acute kidney injury in association with hypotension and hypoalbuminemia. Initiation of monthly high dose intravenous immunoglobulin prophylaxis effectively abrogated the syndrome [...]
