Clival Paraganglioma, Case Report and Literature Review

Received: 30 May 2022;  Published: 07 July 2022;  doi: 10.21926/obm.neurobiol.2203128

Abstract

Paragangliomas are rare tumors that may present with cranial neuropathies when located along the skull base. Supratentorial paragangliomas are less likely to secrete catecholamines but should be worked up, nonetheless. We highlight a case of a female in her fourth decade found to have a petroclival lesion following initial presentation that included one month of tooth pain, dysphagia, diplopia, hoarseness and right hemifacial hypoesthesia. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain demonstrated a T2 hyperintense lesio [...]

Characterization of Early Indicators of Cardiac Allograft Vasculopathy Lesions in a Rat Model Using Non-Invasive Cellular MR

Received: 07 January 2019;  Published: 29 August 2019;  doi: 10.21926/obm.transplant.1903083

Abstract

Background: Cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV) remains a major obstacle to long-term heart allograft survival. A number of studies show that immune mechanisms are involved in CAV. Using non-invasive cellular MRI (CMRI) to explore indicators of CAV lesions and characterize its development could provide new insights into the target immune cells that are responsible for the progression of CAV and reveal early markers of the disease before irreversible changes occur. Methods and Results: Rat heart transplant allograf [...]

Who Believes in Fake News: A Study on the Relationship between Affective Temperament, Cyberchondria and Problematic Use of the Internet during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Received: 02 November 2022;  Published: 12 January 2023;  doi: 10.21926/obm.neurobiol.2301151

Abstract

The COVID-19 outbreak has been associated with various psychological problems, such as Cyberchondria, constant research for information online, to obtain health-related information. This was associated with problematic social media use and various psychological problems. This study aimed to measure the characteristics of fear and anxiety of COVID-19, the generalized approach to online searching and the use of the Internet about the perception of health, during a pandemic. The online survey was disseminated from Apr [...]

Effective Physiotherapy for Post-Concussion Recovery and Return to Sports: Narrative Review

Received: 30 August 2024;  Published: 20 November 2024;  doi: 10.21926/obm.neurobiol.2404255

Abstract

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) caused by direct or indirect forces is a prevalent issue in contact sports, leading to symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, nausea, and neck pain. These symptoms can have long-term consequences, including neurodegenerative diseases and mood disorders. This review fills an essential gap in the literature, as current studies on physiotherapy for traumatic brain injury (TBI) in sports are limited in scope, particularly in evaluating multimodal and personalized interventions. The review a [...]

BSA-Embedded Carbonate Apatite Enhances Chemotherapeutic Effect of Paclitaxel in vitro and in vivo

Received: 29 March 2019;  Published: 15 August 2019;  doi: 10.21926/obm.genet.1903090

Abstract

Introduction of biocompatible ingredients into nano-material formulations has been studied as a strategy for the enhancement of the pharmacokinetics as well as pharmacodynamics of the final product. With the aim of enhancing drug loading and the ultimate efficacy, incorporation of Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) into carbonate apatite (CA) nanoparticles structure was employed in the present study. As a result of BSA embedding in the CA formulation, approximately three-times higher loading efficiency was achieved for pac [...]

The Usefulness of Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Chromosome Aneuploidy Informed by A Randomised Controlled Trial

Received: 29 October 2018;  Published: 22 January 2019;  doi: 10.21926/obm.genet.1901061

Abstract

United Kingdom guidelines recommend single embryo transfer (fresh or cryopreserved) in the first full assisted conception cycle for women under 40 years most at risk of having twins. Based on a recent randomized clinical trial for women aged 36 to 40 years, the hypothetical effect of preimplantation genetic testing for chromosome aneuploidy was extrapolated to single transfer of every morphologically transferable embryo available from a full cycle. Offering testing to every woman seems likely to result in fewer cli [...]

NF-κB; the Critical Link between Immune and Metabolic Pathways: Could NF-κB be Used as a Novel Diagnostic and Prognostic Biomarker for Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis?

Received: 28 January 2019;  Published: 22 May 2019;  doi: 10.21926/obm.hg.1902020

Abstract

(1) Background: A great number of inflammatory mediators and metabolic biomarkers have been shown to contribute to the development and progression of obesity-induced pathologies, including insulin resistance and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Many of those mediators are either targets or activators of nuclear factor-κappa B (NF-κB), which is a key transcription factor and plays a pivotal role in the homeostasis and the regulation of inflammatory signaling pathways in the liver. (2) Methods: Our study po [...]

Using SIRES to Enhance Resilience in Remote & Rural Communities

Received: 29 August 2021;  Published: 21 January 2022;  doi: 10.21926/jept.2201006

Abstract

Rural and remote communities are more vulnerable to damage caused by extreme events as compared to urban areas. Natural disasters can disrupt basic supplies such as domestic water supply and cooking needs in addition to electricity outages. The recognition of the interlinked nature of food, water and energy has gained momentum over the past few years. Smart Integrated Renewable Energy System (SIRES) has been proposed to handle basic needs such as cooking, domestic and irrigation water supply, and electricity to rem [...]

Pilot Study of Tooth Structure Removed in Primary Molar Zirconia Crown Preparations of Typodont Teeth

Received: 10 February 2021;  Published: 28 May 2021;  doi: 10.21926/rpm.2102020

Abstract

Prefabricated zirconia crowns (ZRCs) require a passive fit and more reduction than stainless steel crowns (SSC). To determine the mean and maximum reduction depths in the mesial-buccal and occlusal areas for three ZRC brands and one SSC in posterior primary typodont molars and to compare reduction depths to existing literature to determine the preparation’s proximity to pulpal tissue. Four primary maxillary and mandibular typodont teeth (J and S) were prepared according to the manufacturers’ guidelines for three ZR [...]

Dynamic Behavior of Li in Solid-State Li-Ion Batteries Studied using MeV Ion Beam Analysis Techniques

Received: 26 March 2021;  Published: 24 June 2021;  doi: 10.21926/jept.2102029

Abstract

In this review, various studies on the Li depth profiles of metal/electrolyte/metal capacitors and batteries of Au/LCO/LATP/Pt, LCO/LiPON/Si, and LMO/LiPON/NbO with different metal electrodes at both sides (by bias; LCO =LiCoO2, LATP =Li3.1Al0.86Ti1.14Ge1.27P1.73O12, LMO =LiMn2O4, NbO = Nb2O5) using the in-situ reflection ERD (ERD) technique with 9MeV O+4 ion beam and transmission ERD (TERD) technique with 5MeV He+2 ion beam, respectively, are described. For capacitors, the transport fraction of Li-ion in the elect [...]
