Integration between Geriatric Oncology and Palliative Care: A Single Center Experience for Hospitalized Older Patients with Cancerby
Abstract
Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) is utilized to plan social and health care of the elderly and to complete the diagnostic-therapeutic choice of oncologist also considering early integration with palliative care. Cancer patients (pts) hospitalized aged ≥70 years were screened by the G8 questionnaire to define if necessary CGA. CGA identified: fit, unfit and frail pts. We screened 95 pts by G8 and 93 (98%) were at risk. Pts at risk, evaluated by CGA resulted: 3 fit, 45 unfit and 45 frail. 3 fit pts received s [...] 1236 7440 |
Integrating RNA-Seq Biomarkers and Diagnostic Algorithms to Improve Liver Transplant Outcomes: A Comprehensive Reviewby
Abstract
Graft rejection, early allograft dysfunction (EAD), and poor diagnostic accuracy are some of the challenges that still need to be addressed, even though liver transplantation (LT) has the potential to help patients with end-stage liver disease (ESLD) significantly. Traditional procedures, such as liver biopsies and liver function tests (LFTs), often fail to identify abnormalities early and with accuracy. Genomic RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) has recently emerged as a powerful approach for identifying molecular markers o [...] 1155 7416 |
Comparison of Compressed Air Flow Measurement Techniques for Industrial Energy Efficiency EnhancementAbstract
Across the industrial sector, compressed air is utilized as an easy-to-use and readily accessible tool in a variety of applications. This tool is commonly misunderstood as being more efficient than it is in reality. Air compression is energy intensive and thus both economically and environmentally costly. Compressed air typically only achieves around ~15% efficiency if judged by the energy delivered from the air, meaning approximately 5-6 kWh are wasted for every 1 kWh of useful work performed by compressed air. Du [...] 1161 7414 |
Leveraging Existing Abilities in Dementia (LEAD™): Changing the Way Rehabilitation Professionals Care for Persons Living with DementiaAbstract
Latest estimates indicate that 5-7% of the population are living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias worldwide with a doubling in incidence expected every 20 years. Rehabilitation professionals are challenged with the complex needs of these patients. It is commonly thought that patients with dementia do not benefit from rehabilitation because of cognitive decline, behaviors, lack of communication, or difficulties in learning; however, current literature indicates this is not accurate. With proper knowled [...] 1202 7408 |
Pathological Angiogenesis: The New Culprit behind Chronic Liver Diseaseby
Abstract
This review describes our current understanding of the pathogenic role of angiogenesis in chronic liver disease and portal hypertension, emphasizing its involvement not only in the liver but also in extrahepatic complications such as the formation of portosystemic collaterals and increased splanchnic blood flow, and highlighting different molecular and cellular mechanisms involved. 1227 7404 |
Physiological Response of a Natural Central Incisor Tooth to Various Loading Conditions: A 3D Finite Element Studyby
Abstract
This study evaluates the influence of different loading angles and the area of loading on the ensuing stress distribution and the physical response of a natural central incisor tooth, using a 3D finite element analysis. The CAD model of the incisor tooth assembly (including enamel, dentin, periodontal ligament, pulp, gingiva and jaw bone) was subject to an external (chewing) load of 100 N, over four different areas and at four different angles along the vertical. It was observed that the tooth experiences high von- [...] 795 7403 |
Local Authority Waste Management Strategies, the Circular Economy and the Generation of Energy from Waste in Englandby
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to examine the approach to waste management of local authorities in England, to investigate their strategic objectives, and to ascertain to what extent sustainability and circular economy practices are in evidence in this context. A qualitative, inductive research method is used, based on an examination of secondary documentation in three local authorities in England in Birmingham, Bristol and Newcastle upon Tyne. The findings reveal considerable common ground within the three authori [...] 1161 7402 |
Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) in Elderly Patients Attending at Tertiary Health Care Centre in Central India During 1st Wave of COVID-19 Pandemic: A Prospective Observational Studyby
Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic had imposed a city-level quarantine, local lockdown, and border closures for patient-level isolation to control virus spread. There is a lack of studies on the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in the elderly in countries like India during COVID-19. After obtaining written informed consent from the elderly patients, data was recorded in the case record form-cum-questionnaire. The quality of life was assessed with the help of Centers for disease control and prevention (CDC) HRQoL-14 measur [...] 1119 7389 |
