About This Topic
Women’s nutritional needs are unique and dynamic, shaped by biological, social, and cultural factors throughout the life course, from adolescence to menopause and beyond. Nutrition plays a central role in influencing women’s health outcomes, including reproductive health, pregnancy outcomes, bone density, metabolic regulation, and disease prevention. Yet, gender disparities in dietary intake, access to nutrition services, and representation in clinical research persist globally. Additionally, emerging evidence highlights the growing impact of climate change on maternal health and nutrition, particularly in low-resource settings. Rising food insecurity, environmental stressors, and climate-induced displacement disproportionately affect women’s nutritional status during pregnancy and lactation, increasing risks for both maternal and neonatal complications.
This special issue aims to showcase recent advances in understanding and addressing women’s nutritional needs in diverse contexts. We welcome high-quality original research, systematic reviews, and policy-relevant analyses on topics including micronutrient deficiencies, maternal nutrition, dietary interventions, hormonal influences, gender-specific dietary responses, climate-related vulnerabilities, and public health strategies to improve nutrition equity for women worldwide.
