About This Topic
Chronic diseases are increasingly linked to dietary patterns. This is a matter of concern that has received growing attention from both the nutritional sciences and the medical field. In addition, it is a topic that has been widely addressed in public policy, with examples such as the reduction of salt, sugar in beverages, and saturated fats, given their strong association with diabetes, stroke, and neoplasms, particularly those affecting the digestive system.
The World Health Organization has consistently highlighted the role of unhealthy dietary patterns as a major risk factor for chronic diseases and has supported this work through dedicated expert groups, global strategies, and numerous policy-oriented and scientific publications addressing diet, nutrition, and noncommunicable diseases.
This Special Issue aims to advance the understanding of how dietary patterns influence the prevention, development, and management of chronic diseases, integrating evidence from nutritional science, medicine, and public health to inform clinical practice and policy.
Keywords
Chronic diseases; public policies; dietary patterns; eating habits; cancer; obesity
