Mechanisms of Action of Ready-to-Use Therapies in Hematologic Malignancies: From Clinical Impact to Future Directions

Received: 23 January 2025;  Published: 06 June 2025;  doi: 10.21926/obm.transplant.2502250

Abstract

Off-the-shelf cellular therapies, utilizing allogeneic T cells derived from healthy donors, represent a promising alternative to autologous chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapies for the treatment of hematological malignancies such as leukemias and lymphomas. Unlike autologous approaches, which require the patient’s own cell collection, modification, and expansion, off-the-shelf therapies can be prepared in advance, substantially reducing treatment timelines, decreasing costs, and improving global acces [...]

Versatility of the Axillary Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump in Adult Cardiac Surgery

Received: 23 July 2024;  Published: 22 January 2025;  doi: 10.21926/obm.transplant.2501232

Abstract

The axillary intra-aortic balloon pump (ax-IABP) has been proposed as an alternative to the femoral IABP, particularly for patients with comorbidities rendering them unsuitable for fem-IABP insertion. Patient mobilisation with the ax-IABP in situ is deemed an additional potential benefit. We reviewed our experience with the ax-IABP. A single-centre retrospective review of all adult patients undergoing cardiac surgery (including heart transplantation) in a UK quaternary cardiac surgery centre between 2017 and 2021 w [...]

Are Children in Foster Care Settings More Likely to Display Challenging Behavior on Specific Days of the Week?

Received: 20 May 2024;  Published: 04 September 2024;  doi: 10.21926/obm.icm.2403049

Abstract

Previous studies have shown that the use of a three-color (red, yellow, and green) rating system of child behaviors by caregivers can help facilitate deprescribing of psychotropic medications in foster youth. Using a similar three-color rating system within a state-funded project, we assessed whether there was a day of the week when 48 foster youth consistently displayed challenging behavior. For each foster child, we used conditional probability analyses to determine if there was a day of the week with an increase [...]

Efficiency of Pre-Expanded Anterior Supraclavicular Artery Pedicled Skin Flaps: A Meta-Analysis Study

Received: 27 March 2024;  Published: 13 January 2025;  doi: 10.21926/obm.transplant.2501231

Abstract

The supraclavicular artery flap presents a promising solution for facial reconstruction challenges since 1997, surpassing limitations of traditional methods like the deltopectoral flap. Its extended pedicle and thin, pliable epidermis offer reliable outcomes with minimal donor site morbidity, making it a preferred choice for head and neck reconstruction. This systematic review evaluates the efficacy of pre-expanded supraclavicular artery flaps based on a comprehensive analysis. In accordance with the Preferred Repo [...]

Anticipatory Care Plan for End-Stage Chronic Kidney Patients – Case Report

Received: 29 October 2024;  Published: 18 February 2025;  doi: 10.21926/obm.geriatr.2501298

Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease is characterized by progressive, persistent, and irreversible loss of kidney function, with a high prevalence and increasing trend in the population. An important observation, common to all recent studies, is the constant changes experienced by these individuals. Analytical changes, health status and the patient's preferences should be considered when planning anticipatory care at any phase of the disease. To comprehend the significance of the Anticipatory Care Plan for Patients with End-Stag [...]

A Pilot Double-Blind Randomised Sham-Controlled Trial of Paraesthesia-Free Burst Waveform Spinal Cord Stimulation in a Small Case Series of Patients with Chronic Spinal or Limb Pain

Received: 24 November 2024;  Published: 05 March 2025;  doi: 10.21926/obm.neurobiol.2501274

Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify methodological issues that might influence comparison of burst versus sham spinal cord stimulation for treating chronic pain. Six patients with an implanted BurstDR spinal cord stimulator were assessed double-blind during eight 3-to-4-day ON or OFF cycles over a 28-day period. The stimulator was switched off during two randomly selected cycles. Pain intensity was the primary outcome, and secondary outcomes included analgesic consumption, activity estimation and sleep quality. T [...]
