Mobilization of Autologous Peripheral Blood Stem Cells (PBSC) in CD20+ Lymphoma Patients Using RICE, Granulocyte-Colony Stimulating Factor (G-CSF) and PlerixaforAbstract
RICE is salvage therapy for treating CD20+non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). It is combined with G-CSF to collect autologous peripheral blood stem cells (aPBSC). Little data exists, though, on the combination of G-CSF and Plerixafor after RICE in mobilizing adequate number of CD34 cells and the product’s immune content. We report on the results of twenty CD20+ NHL patients after RICE, G-CSF and Plerixafor were given to collect aPBSC. The median number of cells collected was 12.92 × 106 CD34 cells/kg (range 5.4 [...] 852 6364 |
Pentachlorophenol Effect on Auxin Production by Pseudomonas fluorescens GU059580 and Its Application in Wastewater BioremediationAbstract
Bioaugmentation by Pseudomonas strains is widely used for the removal of pollutants in wastewater. In this study, we aimed to determine the removal of pentachlorophenol (PCP, 800 mg·L–1) in secondary wastewater by the bioaugmentation process. We determined the effects of using three surfactants, namely sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), cetyl-tri-methyl-ammonium bromide (CTAB), and Tween 80 for PCP removal. We determined the effect of the role of PCP surfactant for the biofilm and auxin production of the se [...] 953 6363 |
Modeling of Information Processing in Biomorphic Neuroprocessorby
Abstract
In the present study, we present the results of the modeling of incoming information processing in a neuroprocessor that implements a biomorphic spiking neural network with numerous neurons and trainable synaptic connections between them. Physico-mathematical models of processes of encoding information into biomorphic pulses and their decoding following a neural block into a binary code were developed as well as models of the process of routing the output pulses of neurons by the logic matrix to the synapses of oth [...] 1041 6362 |
Physical Education: Equity of Learning and Social Inclusion for Blind Studentsby
Abstract
Equity in the educational system is crucial to addressing the needs of all students without distinction, from their initial access to education through to graduation. Achieving equity requires implementing reasonable adjustments to ensure that all students can attend classes, actively participate, and learn effectively. Equity entails transforming inequality into inclusion, enhancing students' well-being and quality of life. Education for all prioritizes equity and quality as fundamental principles of the education [...] 1165 6338 |
Acknowledgement to Reviewers of OBM Genetics in 2021Abstract
The editors of OBM Genetics would like to express their sincere gratitude to the following reviewers for assessing manuscripts in 2021. We greatly appreciate the contribution of expert reviewers, which is crucial to the journal's editorial process. We aim to recognize reviewer contributions through several mechanisms, of which the annual publication of reviewer names is one. Reviewers receive a voucher entitling them to a discount on their next LIDSEN publication and can download a certificate of recognition direct [...] 922 6334 |
How COVID-19 Ceases All Older Adult Services & the Way Out for Community-Dwelling Older Adults with Chronic Painby
Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic started at the beginning of 2020. It significantly impacted the older adults in Hong Kong, with most of the community centers and elderly centers being closed down under various restrictive measures. Thus, community-based health promotion activities were temporarily paused, which decreased older adults’ health-promoting behaviors and motivation to stay active. This research aimed to improve the quality of life and the health of older adults with chronic pain through the pain management program [...] 1034 6330 |
Comparison Between How Narrative Therapy and Buddhist Mantra-Based Meditation Promote Mental HealingAbstract
This is a conceptual paper comparing how narrative therapy and Buddhist mantra-based meditation promote mental healing. Narrative therapy promotes mental healing by shifting families’ attention to their subjugated stories of strengths and personal agencies. Whilst Buddhist meditation has been integrated into psychotherapy developed in the West, the application is primarily the focus on breath as a way to help sufferers attain mindfulness. Mantra-based meditation uses the recitation of mantra as the focus inst [...] 1176 6329 |
Models for Predicting Risk of Acute Kidney Injury after Liver SurgeryAbstract
Background & Aims. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a serious complication of liver surgery and associated with significant morbidity and mortality. The incidence of AKI following hepatic surgery can be as high as 94%, with highest rates seen following orthotopic liver transplantation, particularly when extended criteria grafts are used. Strategies to identify patients at risk of AKI may enable early interventions to prevent or minimise AKI.
Methods. A systematic review was conducted using PubMed, Medline, Cochrane and [...] 1412 6321 |
Assessment of a Person's Social Success Through the Characteristics of Interpersonal Relationships in A Virtual EnvironmentAbstract
The sudden spread of the COVID-19 pandemic has convincingly proved the role of social networks in human life activity as an actor of interpersonal relations. The need for isolation and the limitation of face-to-face communication between people has significantly transformed the system of interpersonal connections through an extensive increase in social contacts in the virtual environment and the growing importance of online social services. In the study, we addressed the problem of diagnosing the indicator of socia [...] 895 6321 |
Calculated Human Leucocyte Antigens Evolutionary Divergence (cHED)by
Abstract
Human Leucocyte Antigens (HLA) constitute a highly polymorphic set of genes pivotal to the immune response. The HLA heterozygous advantage hypothesis assumes that heterozygous individuals at the HLA level have a wider range of peptides for T cell recognition than homozygous individuals. Consequently, they possess an enhanced capacity to trigger a targeted immune reaction. The divergent allele advantage hypothesis is an extension of heterozygous advantage, considering the excessive sequence divergence between allele [...] 878 6320 |
