About This Topic
Biomass conversion has emerged as a promising pathway for sustainable energy production and emission reduction. Catalysis plays a pivotal role in transforming biomass into high-value fuels, chemicals, and other energy carriers, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and mitigating environmental pollution. Recent advances in catalytic processes for biomass conversion have focused on enhancing efficiency, selectivity, and sustainability. Innovative catalytic strategies, such as the development of bifunctional catalysts, are being employed to facilitate the conversion of biomass into biofuels, biochemicals, and bio-based polymers. These catalysts not only improve the yield of biofuels like bioethanol and biodiesel but also reduce the formation of undesirable by-products, minimizing emissions during production. Additionally, the integration of catalytic processes with renewable energy sources, such as solar or wind power, holds great potential for achieving carbon-neutral biomass conversion systems.
Nanostructured catalysts, including metal nanoparticles and porous materials, have shown remarkable activity in biomass upgrading reactions, enabling the efficient conversion of complex biomass feedstocks like lignocellulosic biomass and algae. Furthermore, the combination of catalytic processes with enzyme catalysis is being explored to enhance the biorefinery approach, opening avenues for producing high-value products while minimizing environmental impacts. These advances represent a crucial step toward the development of sustainable energy solutions and a cleaner environment, aligning with global goals for carbon neutrality and resource sustainability.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted through the LIDSEN Submission System. Detailed information on manuscript preparation and submission is available in the Instructions for Authors. All submitted articles will be thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process and will be processed following the Editorial Process and Quality Control policy. Upon acceptance, the article will be immediately published in a regular issue of the journal and will be listed together on the special issue website, with a label that the article belongs to the Special Issue. LIDSEN distributes articles under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) License in an open-access model. The authors own the copyright to the article, and the article can be free to access, distribute, and reuse provided that the original work is correctly cited.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). Research articles and review articles are highly invited. Authors are encouraged to send the tentative title and abstract of the planned paper to the Editorial Office (cr@lidsen.com) for record. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Editorial Office.
