Recent Progress in Nutrition Welcomes New Editorial Board Member

We sincerely welcome Prof. Dr. Sajid Bashir Soofi, Residency in Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, The Aga Khan University, Pakistan, to join the Editorial Board of Recent Progress in Nutrition. Dr. Sajid Bashir Soofi is a researcher and clinician who serves as Principal Investgator for the Willows Impacat Evaluation in Pakistan and is an Associate Professor at the Aga Khan University in Karachi. Besides having prolific pediatric clinical skills, Dr Soofi is an adept public health researcher with a national and international recognition. He has been actively involved in the maternal, neonatal and child health research which ranges from large population-based surveys to complex clinical trials. The evidence congregated through his research has been translated into policy change and curriculum revisions at different international avenues. Dr. Soofi is well published and has numerous scientific papers in high impact peer reviewed journals including, Lancet, BMJ, BMC, Plos One etc. He also provides regular services as an editor and reviewer in many peer reviewed journals. In recognition of his excellent research track he received the prestigious International Health Research Award by the American Academic of Pediatrics. We sincerely welcome Prof. Dr. Sathish Thirunavukkarasu, from D Emory University, Komotini, Atlanta, USA, to join the Editorial Board of Recent Progress in Nutrition. Sathish Thirunavukkarasu is an Assistant Professor at the Dept. of Family and Preventive Medicine, Emory School of Medicine. Sathish completed his Medical Degree, Diploma in Family Medicine, and Master's Degree in Public Health in India and received a Ph.D. in Diabetes Epidemiology from the University of Melbourne in Australia. After his Ph.D., he did two years of Post-Doctoral training at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and three more years at McMaster University in Canada. His primary research focuses on the epidemiology of type 2 diabetes and its prevention by developing novel interventions. He is also keen on translating the evidence from research into clinical and public health practice. Sathish has published research articles in very high-impact, leading medical and global health journals such as Nature Reviews Endocrinology, The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, The Lancet Global Health, Diabetes Care, and PLoS Medicine as the lead author. Giuseppe Murdaca has received his PhD in Science and Space Engineering at the University of Genova (Italy) during the period of 2000-2003. Currently, he is working as Assistant professor in Internal Medicine University of Genova (Italy).His research has included Immunodeficiency Autoimmunity Neuro-endocrino-immunology Pharmacogenomics.Based on this research and fellowship training he has received several awards and honors, such as: Prize for young researchers of the study, assigned by the GILS, with the following motivation: "Standardization of a method to assess impairment by skinfold thickness skin", delivered on the occasion of the "Day VII Italian to fight Scleroderma" (Milan, 17/3 / 2001). We sincerely welcome Prof. Dr. Jose M. Soriano, from University of Universitat de València, Valencia, Spain, to join the Editorial Board of Recent Progress in Nutrition. Prof. Soriano has served as Director of Food and Health Lab in the European Network of Living Labs (ENOLL), University of Valencia, Director of University Clinic of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Physiotherapy at Lluís Alcanyís Foundation-University of Valencia and Co-Director of Joint Research Unit on Endocrinology, Nutrition and Clinical Dietetics at University of Valencia-Health Research Institute Hospital La Fe, Spain. He has Degree in Pharmacy, in 1996, and Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, in 2018. He undertook a PhD in Pharmacy with an Extraordinary Doctorate Award in 2001. His clinical interests include clinical nutrition and the study of human gut microbiome and new biomarkers applied in nutrition, with over 210 peer-reviewed publications to-date, as well as 20 book chapters and books. He was Editor-in-Chief in the Spanish Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics (2016-2019). He has won two research (at Institute for Egg Studies and Group of Food Microbiology from The Spanish Society of Microbiology), two teaching (at the Professor Vicente Callao’s Charity-Teacher Association and Spanish Ministry of Education) and two development cooperation (at Valencia City Council and University of Valencia) awards. We sincerely welcome Prof. Leonel Pereira, from University of Coimbra, Marine and Environmental Sciences Center, Coimbra, Portugal, to join the Editorial Board of Recent Progress in Nutrition. Prof. Leonel Pereira has an undergraduate degree in Biology, a Ph.D. in Biology (specialty in Cell Biology), and a Habilitation degree in Biosciences (specialization in Biotechnology) from the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Coimbra, Portugal, where he is currently a professor. In addition to teaching at this university, he is an integrated researcher at the Marine and Environmental Sciences Center (MARE), Portugal. His interests include marine biodiversity (algae), marine biotechnology (algae bioactive compounds), and marine ecology (environmental assessment). Since 2008, he has been the author and editor of the electronic publication MACOI – Portuguese Seaweeds Website (www.seaweeds.uc.pt). He is also a member of the editorial boards of several scientific journals. Dr. Pereira has edited or authored more than 20 books, 200 journal articles, and 45 book chapters. He has given more than 200 lectures and oral communications at various national and international scientific events. He is the coordinator of several national and international research projects. In 1998, he received the Francisco de Holanda Award (Honorable Mention) and, more recently, the Mar Rei D. Carlos award (18th edition). He is also a winner of the 2016 CHOICE Award for an outstanding academic title for his book Edible Seaweeds of the World. We sincerely welcome Prof. Dr. Marijn M Speeckaert, from University of Ghent, Belgium, to join the Editorial Board of Recent Progress in Nutrition. Prof. Speeckaert trained at the Department of Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology and Immunology at the Ghent University Hospital from 2006 to 2010, focusing on the biology and clinical application of vitamin D binding proteins and their polymorphisms. He joined the Ghent University Hospital, Department of Nephrology in 2011, is currently Professor of Internal Diseases, Clinical Head of Nephrology Department UZ Gent, and has received a FWO Fundamental Clinical Fellowship. He is also serving as Associate Editor of ACB, Section Editor-in-Chief of JPM, Associate Editor of Frontiers in Immunology. His research interests include Translational Research, Clinical Research, Medical Education, Protein Chemistry, Nephrology and Epidemiology.
