Mechanics of ABS Polymer under Low & Intermediate Strain Rates

Received: 24 January 2023;  Published: 16 March 2023;  doi: 10.21926/rpm.2301012

Abstract

Thermoplastics polymers like Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) are often reinforced with nano/micro reinforcements to enhance their mechanical, thermal and electrical properties. However, the viscoelastic nature of these polymers results in their strong dependence on the applied strain rate and temperature sensitivity, leading to their characterization complexity. Hence it is paramount to study the strain rate-dependent mechanics of neat ABS. In this study, the effect of strain rate and temperature on Young’s m [...]

Spectrophotometric and Spectrofluorimetric Quantification of Urea via Silver Nanoparticles Prepared by Wet Chemical Method

Received: 09 November 2022;  Published: 15 March 2023;  doi: 10.21926/cr.2301014

Abstract

Silver nanoparticles have been utilized in an easy, sensitive, and effective approach through spectrophotometry and spectrofluorimetry to quantify urea in water samples. Here, 1,3-di-(1H-imidazole-1-yl) -2-propanol (DIPO) was employed to stabilize Ag NPs produced from the reduction of aqueous silver nitrate by sodium borohydride (NaBH4). Beer-Lambert's law was applied for determination using the complexation of Ag NPs with urea molecules. The results show urea can be assessed concurrently with good results and perc [...]

Monitoring Survival Following Lung Transplantation with Inclusion of Unaccounted Risks

Received: 07 November 2022;  Published: 14 March 2023;  doi: 10.21926/obm.transplant.2301177

Abstract

Lung transplant (LTx) survival and quality of life have been steadily improving, partially from changes in candidate selection for transplantation. There are well-known high-risk factors that lead to poor LTx outcomes, which may be referred to as ‘accounted’ risks. However, there are also other ‘unaccounted’ risks that are not included in the existing model for expected LTx survival to help programs for resource allocation. We performed a retrospective cohort study of all LTx recipients over the age of 18 at UC San [...]

New Technologies to Support People with Neurodevelopmental Disorders: A Selective Review

Received: 04 September 2022;  Published: 13 March 2023;  doi: 10.21926/obm.neurobiol.2301163

Abstract

Neurodevelopmental disorders represent a cluster of conditions first diagnosed during childhood or adolescence (i.e., including intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorders, motor deficits, and communication deficits). The main characteristic of neurodevelopmental disorders is the presence of a deficit or a delay in the acquisition of skills that may affect different areas of evolution (e.g., cognitive, affective, and motor). These clinical conditions make the child or adolescent passive, isolated, and unable [...]

Cost-Effective Biodiesel Synthesis from Waste Marble Powder as A Green Heterogeneous Catalyst Using Pongamia Pinnata Oil

Received: 08 December 2022;  Published: 13 March 2023;  doi: 10.21926/cr.2301013

Abstract

Waste marble powder (WMP) is Investigated for developing heterogeneous catalysts by calcination method and used in biodiesel synthesis by esterification-transesterification process from Pongamia Pinnata oil. Hammet indicators, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), Thermogravimetric analysis, and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) techniques were also studied for the characterization of developed catalyst from waste marble powder (WMP). The conversion of calcium carbonate to calcium oxide in marble powder was found at 800 [...]

Sustainable Synthesis of Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework-8 Nanoparticles and Application in the Adsorption of the Drug Chlorhexidine

Received: 06 December 2022;  Published: 13 March 2023;  doi: 10.21926/cr.2301012

Abstract

In an attempt to synthesize nanomaterial concerning chemistry, the sustainable synthesis of Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework-8 (ZIF-8) nanoparticles by a low-cost approach through the recycling of waste mother liquors was explored and then indicated the potential to remove chlorhexidine (CHLX) from an aqueous solution. ZIF-8 was produced under solvothermal reaction at 25°C and characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, adsorption/desorption of N2, dynamic light scattering and con [...]

Morpholine-Based Novel Ionic Liquid for Synthesis and Characterization of Triazolidinethiones and Their Biological Properties

Received: 03 December 2022;  Published: 12 March 2023;  doi: 10.21926/cr.2301011

Abstract

Keeping the green chemistry approach in mind we have synthesized a novel morpholine-based ionic liquid [NBMMorph]+Br-. The structure of Ionic liquid was confirmed by spectral techniques viz. IR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR, analysis. The synthesized novel IL [NBMMorph]+Br- was utilized to prepare 1,2,4-triazolidine-3-thiones of biological significance. The [NBMMorph]+Br- IL shows excellent catalytic activity, and a simple filtration technique can separate the thiazolidinedione products. The structure of the synthesized com [...]

Trauma and Distress on a Cruise during the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Qualitative Study with Italian and French Tourists

Received: 24 July 2022;  Published: 10 March 2023;  doi: 10.21926/obm.neurobiol.2301162

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically changed our daily lives. One of the sectors most affected was tourism and travel – and, more specifically, cruises, given the prolonged time passengers spend with others within the small spaces of the cruise ship. While finding well-organised entertainment opportunities on cruises is possible, emergency conditions may cause panic. On such occasions, reactions can be highly stressful or even traumatic. This research explores the events and emotions experienced by passengers duri [...]

The Opportunity for Quality Malnutrition Care to Improve Rural Health Outcomes and Health Equity for Older Americans

Received: 22 November 2022;  Published: 10 March 2023;  doi: 10.21926/obm.geriatr.2301227

Abstract

Older adults have a heightened risk of malnutrition that occurs with age. Many factors can increase their risk for malnutrition, including factors associated with disease, function, social and mental health, and hunger and food insecurity. Risk for malnutrition is also linked to disparities and may disproportionately impact people living in rural areas. This Perspective paper outlines the issue of malnutrition and its impact on health outcomes and health disparities as well as summarizes existing evidence on malnut [...]

Using Plastic Wastes to Exemplify Justice Dimensions of Extended Producer Responsibility

Received: 20 December 2022;  Published: 10 March 2023;  doi: 10.21926/aeer.2301024

Abstract

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) places liability, physical, financial, and/or informative responsibility for a product throughout its life cycle on its producer. Implementing such schemes is expected to result in many environmental and social benefits. Yet, academic and practitioner discussions on the mechanisms focus on environmental impacts, whereas social dimensions of EPR are often side-lined. This short communication contributes to addressing this gap by establishing a research agenda for the justice di [...]
