About This Topic

The establishment of renewable energy projects, such as wind and solar farms, can cause environmental degradation and adverse social impacts on rural communities. As a result, differing regulations and priorities among countries can hinder progress in renewable energy adoption. There is a controversy on transitioning to other energy sources. being not a priority for national economic growth. In this context there is an ongoing interest of finding complementary storage technologies like batteries, in order to ensure continuous energy availability. Besides, renewable energy technologies are expected to extend the lifespan of renewable energy sources, thus, offsetting initial investment costs. Moreover, public education is needed to diffuse the technological maturity and applicability of low-carbon technologies and drive broader acceptance. Subsequently, environmental, social, and governmental (ESG) goals can lead to job creation in the rapidly emerging field of renewable energy sources and technologies.

Based on the aforementioned multiparametric research context of transitioning from carbon-intensive economies to low carbon economies, and from fossil-fueled energy production to renewables-based energy production, collaborative efforts between public and private sectors on a global scale are vital to overcome barriers to the low-carbon transition. This special issue is extended to cover the complexity and multifaceted nature issues of the transition to a low-carbon economy and to renewable energy development. Addressing the challenges of such a transition to accomplish a sustainable and equitable energy future, this special issue covers, but not limited to, the following research fields:

  • Environmental protection and environmental education
  • Social cohesion and public acceptance of renewables
  • Technological advancements
  • Economic challenges and niche-market innovations
  • Regulatory initiatives and infrastructure upscaling
  • Geopolitical concerns in energy management and energy poverty alleviation
  • Environmental, Social, and Governmental (ESG) goals of renewable energy sources towards climate neutrality

Dear colleagues and researchers,

you are warmly welcome to send your recent and relevant research works which are related to the aforementioned fields of specialization. The papers selected for this special issue are subject to peer reviewing in order to optimally disseminate research advancements and multi-disciplinary dynamics in the fields of “Low Carbon Economy and Renewable Energy”, accordingly.
