About This Topic

As physicians, researchers, psychologists, philosophers, and writers have made us aware, life is full of challenges, stresses, and obstacles. One need not look far for evidence that alienation is prevalent in our society. Note the rising divorce rate; the statistics on suicides; the continually spiraling crime cases, to get an idea of the stresses that we face as individuals and as a society.  Being able to live a satisfying and fulfilling life requires resilience, motivation to face those obstacles, and being connected to a social support network. This special issue is dedicated to life’s stresses, social isolation, alienation and loneliness. Addressing them and meeting triumph requires emotional resilience which will enable one to successfully respond to life’s demands and challenges.

Manuscripts describing studies, review articles, and case studies are invited.

Keywords

loneliness; isolation; stress; emotional resilience; flourishing
