About This Topic
Artificial intelligence (AI) and territorial intelligence are increasingly important for addressing the complex and place-specific challenges faced by rural areas. This Special Issue examines how AI-enabled methods, data-driven decision support, and collaborative territorial intelligence can strengthen sustainable rural development by improving the understanding of local assets, vulnerabilities, stakeholder networks, and emerging opportunities. We welcome theoretical, methodological, and empirical contributions on topics including intelligent territorial observatories, geospatial and predictive analytics, AI-supported public policy, rural entrepreneurship and innovation, sustainable value chains, smart agriculture, public service provision, demographic resilience, climate adaptation, social inclusion, and participatory governance. Particular attention will be given to responsible and human-centred approaches that combine technological capabilities with local knowledge, institutional capacity, and community participation. The Special Issue seeks to advance interdisciplinary knowledge and provide transferable frameworks, tools, and evidence for researchers, policymakers, public administrations, businesses, and rural communities working toward inclusive, resilient, and environmentally sustainable territorial development.
