About This Topic

Organisms must resist environmental changes and foreign invaders to sustain life. Unlike animals, which have immune systems, plants, which cannot even move, have responded by producing many secondary metabolites. Plant metabolites have also been shown to have various functions in animals, such as antibacterial and antiviral effects, suppression of blood pressure elevation, and anti-Alzheimer's effects. Although the medicinal effects of plants have not been recognized as immediate, the medicinal functions of plant extracts through continuous administration have been attracting attention. Therefore, in this special issue, we invite papers on the functional properties of plant extracts and their metabolites in animals and animal cells.
