Besides, infrastructures in the area have a concrete height in the economy of this part of Europe. The combination of the Mediterranean Sea and the complex topography plays a role in the occurrence of severe weather events in this area and its surrounding. The use of remote sensing data in an hourly resolution allows the identification and characterization of those severe episodes, helping to determine the future trending of the adverse weather. This point is crucial in the development of new engineering projects, as also in the maintenance of the current ones. Weather radar and lightning observations have allowed observing an increase of the severe weather occurrence and, besides, the main characteristics of the thunderstorms that produce them. Deeping vertical developments, the presence of hail and the decrease of the rainfall efficiency are characteristics that must be taking in the account in the early future.
